Thesis Awards 2008
for Doctors of Philosophy and University Graduates
in Petroleum Engineering, Geo-Sciences and
other disciplines related to the Oil & Gas Industry
1. In order to encourage and reward university graduates who specialise in petroleum engineering, geo-sciences and other disciplines related to the oil & gas industry, the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers - Italian Section), the EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers) and Assomineraria (Associazione Mineraria Italiana - Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Sector) are pleased to announce the 16th Thesis Award.
2. All university graduates from Italian universities and Italian nationals graduated abroad, who will complete their studies or research in the period September 1st 2007 to October 31th 2008, are entitled to submit their published thesis for the award.
3. The theses must cover subjects related to Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Exploration & Production activities:
Geology, Geophysics and Formation Evaluation
Drilling and Completion
Reservoir Engineering
Production and Transport
Health, Safety and Environment
Energy Economics
4. The instructions for participation in the contest are detailed in the "Thesis Award" section of www.speitaly.org. Candidates must comply with the following deadlines:
Contact Information and Abstract – deadline September 15th
Complete electronic copy of the thesis – deadline October 20th
Graduation Certificate– before the Award Ceremony which will be held December 11th

6. The Board of Directors of the SPE Italian Section, the Board of the EAGE-SEG Italian Section and the Board of Directors of Assomineraria jointly appoint the Evaluation Committee, which is composed of experts in the above-mentioned disciplines. The Evaluation Committee shall select the theses considered to be the most worthy of receiving the Award. Its decision is final and is not subject to appeal.
7. The prize for each winning thesis will be 2,400? (twenty four hundred euros). Moreover, a reference of each award-winning thesis will be published in the «SPE Bulletin» of the Italian Section, in the «EAGE First Break» and in the «Assomin Bulletin». The Award ceremony will take place on December, 11th 2008 in San Donato Milanese (Italy).

It must be noticed that Abstracts have significant impact on the evaluation process, so that a careful and accurate writing contributes to the thesis appreciation.
