Awad A. Omran1 A COMPARATIVE STUDY FOR THE WATER SATURATION CALCULATION MODELS APPLIED TO HAMMAM FARAUN SANDSTONE, RAS SHUKHEIR, GULF OF SUEZ, EGYPT 1: Professor of Geophysics, Geology Department, Assiut University, Egypt Geology Dept., Faculty of Science, Assiut University, 71516 Assiut, Egypt Email: awaomran@Yahoo.com ABSTRACT The water saturation (Sw) of a reservoir is the main target for the log analyst and the reservoir engineer. Although, the numerous existing water saturation calculation models, there is no single model that can be universally used for all reservoir conditions. The present study aims at determining the most favorable and realistic water saturation model(s) to be utilized in Hammam Faraun sandstone reservoir, of the Lower Miocene age, in Ras Shukheir field, Gulf of Suez. The well logging data from four producing wells, namely, SH#1, SH#2, SH#3 and SH#5 were used for zone-wise determination of the water saturation and petrophysical parameters including porosity, permeability, shale content and formation water resistivity for the selected reservoir. The water saturation was particularly calculated by applying a number of the most common models for clean and shaly reservoir rocks using a specially designed PC program. The obtained water saturation results have been subjected to a comparative study considering the petrophysical parameters. In view of that, the combined use of Hingle and Pickett models seems a powerful procedure to get reliable water saturation values in clean zones for the studied reservoir. However, in shaly zones, the Fertl & Hammack model gives reasonable values of water saturation, which can be correlated with Simandoux, Bardon & Pied, Hossin, Clavier et al. (Dual Water), Schlumberger, Poupon & Leveaux and Nigerian models. The advantage of Fertl & Hammack model is that, it used actual resistivity value of the shale in site and not the adjacent shale bed resistivity and is much easily to handle. The hydrocarbon saturation (Sh) in Hammam Faraun reservoir could be accordingly evaluated in the four wells. Obtainable results were graphically represented and have been confirmed from the data of the drilled stem and production tests as well as the water and core analyses.
