SPWLA 2011 Spring Topical Conference REGISTER NOW!!! Click here "ACOUSTICS and PETROPHYSICS" Integrating seismic, borehole measurements, and laboratory measurements for geomechanics and reservoir characterization TAOS, NEW MEXICO APRIL 3-7, SAGEBRUSH INN & AND CONFERENCE CENTER Acoustic well logging measurements are most versatile with many valuable applications in the oil industry. They are used for well placement, geomechanical interpretation, reservoir characterization, and production enhancement; used by drillers, petrophysicists and geologists alike. Scale varies from centimetre lab measurements to well logs to seismic integration on the scale of hundreds of metres. Acoustics are also one of the more complex measurements to understand and interpret. This meeting is intended to bring together industry experts and end users of acoustic data to present new technologies, explore applications, share experiences, and discuss challenges. To encourage sharing of the latest techniques and ideas, conference attendance is limited and proceedings are off the record. Some possible topics to be included based on interests [1] Laboratory rock physics and acoustic characterization Core-base velocity and geomechanical analyses, low frequency measurements, evaluation of dispersion, etc. [2] Wellbore acoustics - acquisition, processing, interpretation Wireline and LWD acoustic logs, advances in tool design, cased hole acoustic logging, logging in horizontal wells, seismic while drilling; Real-time acoustic processing, acoustic log QC and post-processing, fracture analysis, geomechanics, borehole seismic processing and integration [3] Seismic petrophysics workflows Fluid replacement, core-log integration, impact of invasion (4) Cased Hole Applications Cased hole shear for porosity and lithology [5] Case histories - unconventional and conventional reservoirs Rock physics modeling, reservoir acoustic properties, shale/overburden elastic properties, stories about how we use the technology. [6] Challenges and emerging issues Steering Committee Mark Kittridge, ConocoPhillips, Chair Tad Smith, Apache Gopa De, Chevron Doug Patterson, Baker Hughes John Walsh, Schlumberger Jennifer Market, Halliburton Brian Hornby, BP Robert Hu, Fugro-Jason Rob Vines, Shell Carlos Beneduzi, Petrobras Xianyun Wu, ExxonMobil Ferdinanda Pampuri, ENI Michael Manning, Samson, SPWLA VP Education Format: this conference will be informal with "off-the-record" discussions. The organization will include morning, afternoon and evening sessions, with both 15-20 minute presentations-discussion sessions along with informal break-out sessions for detailed discussion. No papers or abstracts will be published and "work-in-progress" examples are encouraged. Commercialism in presentation is strictly prohibited in this conference and should be avoided! Cost: $1800 (member, with lodging), $1875 (non-member, with lodging) Registration includes conference fees, 4 nights accommodation, breakfast and lunch (Monday - Wednesday), commemorative shirt, icebreaker, and conference dinner. Non-participant fees will include icebreaker and group meals. Additional details are available at www.spwla.org or through the SPWLA business office (713-947-8727). Registration: No onsite registration will be available, registration by application only, online at www.spwla.org. Registration deadline is February 17, 2011, Applicant will be invoiced on approval. Presentation submissions: Participants are strongly encouraged to provide presentations and topics for discussion and take an active role in the conference. Please provide a description of presentation content on the application form. Presenters that have presentations included in the final agenda will be notified prior to the conference.
