2012 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS SPWLA 53rd Annual Logging Symposium Cartagena Colombia, June 16-20 The 2012 SPWLA Symposium will be in Cartagena-a charming city bathed by the Caribbean Sea on the northern coast of Colombia. Cartagena is colorful, warm and exotic, dazzling visitors with its Spanish Colonial architecture, picturesque cafes, fortresses, castles and beautiful Caribbean waters. Colombia has attracted the attention of small and medium-sized energy companies, as well as large international companies. Colombia's landscape offers light to heavy oil and natural gas exploration and development, onshore and offshore opportunities and a well-established oil services industry. The annual symposium has traditionally provided a platform for members to showcase and share new technologies and methodologies developed in our daily activities. We solicit papers of all aspects of formation evaluation. The SPWLA Board of Directors invites you to join us in Cartagena, June 16-20, 2012 to showcase your recent innovations and discoveries at the 53rd Annual Symposium. 1. Unconventional Resources, Challenges and Case Histories 1. Shale hydrocarbon, tight gas, coal bed methane, related new technology.. 2. Conventional Reservoirs, Challenges and Case Histories 2. Shaly sand, carbonates, low resistivity pay, variable water salinity, EOR, new technology.. 3. New Logging Technology: Sensor Introduction and Validation 3. Resistivity, nuclear, sonic, magnetic resonance, pressure and sampling, mud logging, imaging.... 4. Advanced Mud Logging and Real-Time Decision-Making: Case Histories 4. Well placement, safety in over-pressured zones, drilling and completion optimization, wellbore stability and other well safety issues, related new technology 5. Cased-Hole/Production Logging 5. Production logging, cement integrity, EOR, formation evaluation, related new technology... 6. South American Case Studies 6. Highlight application of new and existing petrophysical techniques to solve the unique challenges of South American projects... Your abstract must be submitted no later than November 1, 2011 through online submission at www.editorialmanager.com/spwla. Our society uses PeerTrack™ online submission software, which will help our distinguished Technology Committee members perform their reviews most efficiently and accurately. The information contained in your abstract is the basis for the acceptance of your paper into the technical program. Your abstract should only contain 200-500 words. You may also include one figure. Do not feel obligated to use the full-allotted length. Relevance, novelty and clarity are what our members look for at our symposia. Notification of acceptance will be made in December 2011. If accepted, your abstract will be published in the April 2012 issue of Petrophysics. The paper will be scheduled for presentation at the Cartagena Symposium, and a complete manuscript will be required for the Transactions by April 9, 2012.
