SPWLA 2010 SPRING TOPICAL CONFERENCE RESERVE YOUR SEAT NOW!! UNCONVENTIONAL GAS PETROPHYSICS PRESENTED BY THE SPWLA UNCONVENTIONAL RESOURCES SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP AUSTIN, TEXAS 25 -29 APRIL 2009 THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS HOTEL AND CONVENTION CENTER APPLICATION DEADLINE:3 APRIL 2010 REGISTER ONLINE AT www.spwla.org Gas production from "unconventional resources," such as tight gas and shale gas, continues to grow increasing volumes and focus both within North America and internationally. These resources present very specific and complex petrophysical challenges in many different areas including both core and log analysis. This topical conference is intended to allow petrophysicists working in "unconventional resources" to gather and discuss learnings, further work and future needs for petrophysical evaluation of these challenging reservoirs. The specific content submitted for this conference will set the final agenda, focusing upon specific problems and challenges that need to be discussed and addressed at both a theoretical and application level. This list will be potentially composed of the following "broad" topics, but not limited to: New Technologies for Tight Gas and Shale gas evaluation Optimum logging and evaluation strategies for tight gas and shale gas wells 'Best Practice' petrophysical workflows for tight gas and shale gas: what key things do we need to pay attention to? What are the best data we can provide for play assessments? Properly dealing with Uncertainty in Tight Gas and Shale Gas reservoirs . Focus on service company concerns for past, present and future of shale and tight gas reservoir evaluation Focus on oil company concerns for past, present and future of shale and tight gas reservoir evaluation Hydraulic fracturing and 'fraccability' assessments: what key parameters are available from petrophysics to estimate Shale gas "netting" techniques Core analysis standards: concerns from service companies and operators. How do we create evaluation standards for tight gas and shale gas core analysis? What are the best protocols for core evaluations? Conference and Unconventional Resources SIG steering committee: Russell Spears, ExxonMobil (SPWLA VP of Education and UR SIG Chairman) Thaimar Ramirez, ConocoPhillips (UR SIG Secretary) C.B. Liu, Chevron (UR SIG VP-Technology) Richard Sigal, University of Oklahoma (UR SIG Director-at-large) Greg Praznik, Halliburton (UR SIG Director-at-large) Timothy Loveless, Baker Hughes (UR SIG Director-at-large) Samir Abueita, Anadarko (UR SIG VP- Communications) Mike Walker, Weatherford Laboratories Valerie Jochen, Schlumberger Robert Lee, Core Laboratories Format: this conference will be informal with "off-the-record" discussions. The organization will include morning, afternoon and evening sessions, with both 15-20 minute presentations-discussion sessions along with informal break-out sessions for detailed discussion.
