Saint Petersburg 2008 9 7 - 10 April 2008 www.eage.org Workshops ‘Challenges of Complex Reservoirs’ Sunday 6 April, 09.00–12.30 hrs Convenor Igor Shnurman Kuban Oil Company Viktor Petersilie VNIGNI In the modern oil and gas industry, estimation of hydrocarbon reserves, geological and hydrodynamic modelling are largely based on techniques that use generalized relationships between petrophysical properties or reservoir quality and characteristics of the physical fields recorded by surface and borehole geophysical surveys. This is a common approach used by most geoscientists both in Russia and abroad as it offers a major benefit by delivering solutions with minimal input data. While giving full credit to their superior advantages that allow explorationists to proceed with their evaluations without additional information, a critical factor early in an exploration project, it is important to acknowledge that the principle weakness of these techniques is a limited capacity for creating a universal petrophysical model for the entire diversity of hydrocarbon reservoirs. This workshop will discuss petrophysical models of complex reservoirs constrained by specific geological settings, with talks and lectures covering the following subjects: • Existing methods of reservoir description for reserves estimation: potential and limitations • Optimized petrophysical modelling for detailed geophysical interpretation • Integrating special core analysis (SCAL) data to enhance petrophysical and geophysics-based interpretational models of complex reservoirs The lectures will be given by Russian petrophysicists who are practically involved in these subjects. Without doubt, these lectures will be useful to a broad audience of petrophysicists who are involved complex reservoir studies, well logging and exploration geophysics, reserves estimation and 3D geologic and hydrodynamic modelling. The workshop is structured to maximize the opportunity for an exchange of views and open discussion.
