Welcome to the 33rd International Geological Congress,
IGC Oslo 6-14 August 2008.
The World Congress with 6000 to 8000 participants and 500 symposia in 40 parallel sessions covers most disciplines in geoscience. There is a plenary theme every day and August 13 is devoted to: “The energy race – what will be the future energy mix”.
There will be 30 symposia related to petroleum geology and exploration, short courses and workshops. There will also symposia on gas hydrates and storage of CO2.
There are 10 topical symposia related to the International Year of Planet Earth.
More than 50 excursions to Nordic Countries, Greenland and Russia are planned.
The GeoExpo exhibition will include the oil and mining industry, consulting companies, publishing companies, universities, geological surveys and many geological associations.
The IGC33 has a Geohost stipend program to support scientists from developing countries.
