CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS!!
REMINDER - REGISTRATION DEADLINE OCTOBER 2
SPWLA 2009 FALL TOPICAL CONFERENCE

PETROPHYSICAL DETERMINATION OF BULK VOLUMES October 25-29, 2009, Austin, Texas

Understanding and improving on the fundamental relationships and theory that drives the science of Petrophysics is a key aspect of the SPWLA in its quest to further technical advancement of the practice. A topical conference is hereby proposed with a design basis to address/discuss/investigate many of the key underlying relationships and equations that are used day-to-day by practicing petrophysicists in industry and academia.

The specific content submitted for this conference will set the final agenda, focusing upon specific problems and challenges that need to be discussed and addressed at both a theoretical and application level. This list will be potentially composed of the following "broad" topics, but not limited to:
° New Solutions to Old Problems: new application of theory to classic petrophysical challenges. First principles vs. empiricism.
° Bulk Volume Workflows: approaches to determine hydrocarbon content
° Characterization of challenging reservoirs: special workflows and techniques to characterize low porosity, low permeability on core and log.
° Bulk Volume correlations between log and core in unconventional vs. conventional reservoirs: importance of vendor selections.
° Bulk Volume uncertainties: determination and visualization
° Communication/technology transfer of Bulk Volume basics to the next generation of technical professionals.
° New technologies for Bulk Volume determination- log and core measurements, new analytical/processing techniques
° Bulk Volume cut offs for net-pay determination in conventional vs. unconventional reservoirs: Evaluation of producible fluids?
° Bulk volume estimation: Integration of conventional open-hole logs with NMR and/or cased-hole logs
Conference steering committee:
Thaimar Ramirez, ConocoPhillips
Dave Dudus, Imperial Oil Resources
Russell Spears, ExxonMobil Production Company
