2008 Fall Topical Conference "Dynamic Petrophysics"
Monterey Bay-Seaside, California
November 2-6, 2008
Dynamic Petrophysics is the observation of changes in downhole measurements with time, where the elapsed time varies from a few seconds to a few years after drilling, completion or stimulation. Evaluation of these changes provides important and often overlooked insights into reservoir connectivity, relative permeability, mechanical properties and enhanced recovery process efficiency at varying scales and distances from the wellbore. Applications of time-lapse logging can be as casual as looking at data from an LWD connection or wireline repeat pass, or as deliberate as log-inject-log for monitoring fluid saturation changes in secondary or tertiary recovery projects.
A powerful underlying hypothesis of Dynamic Petrophysics is that by focusing on variations in a single property, the analysis is simplified, formation properties are revealed, and accuracy is improved. Advances in technology that provide significantly increased volumes of LWD, wireline, and instrumented- and through-casing time-lapse measurements provide challenges and opportunities for reservoir characterization.
The final agenda will vary with submissions received, but topics are likely to include:
° LWD time-lapse applications
° Steamflood monitoring and condensation-induced gamma
° Shale-oil in situ process observation and monitoring
° Log-inject-log applications including NMR before and after mud doping
° Resistivity and nuclear methods for monitoring saturation changes
° Changes in acoustic properties between LWD and wireline time
° Subsidence monitoring, wellbore integrity and sand production
° Instrumented wellbores, production logging and formation temperature

FORMAT:
SPWLA Topical Conferences are off-the-record discussions focused on a specific area of interest. The meeting will be structured but informal and will include a mixture of morning, afternoon and evening technical sessions. No papers or abstracts will be published. We encourage submission of work-in-progress and problems not yet solved. Presentations will typically be 15-20 minutes. In keeping with conference objectives, commercialism in presentations is to be avoided.
PACKAGED COST USD:
SPWLA members: $ 1300 US Non-members: $ 1375 US, $250 US for non-participant partners.
Registration cost includes 4 nights accommodations, commemorative shirt, one evening dinner, icebreaker, breakfast and lunch Monday through Wednesday. Non-participant fee includes Sunday evening functions and meals with the group. PLEASE NOTE: The meeting will conclude at the end of the evening session on Wednesday, Nov 5. Fee includes Wednesday night lodging.
